I want to share a couple of very cool, subtle things about this pedigree.
1) Mashi is a direct male-line descendent of the legendary Dekker (Hi-Jinx Black and Dekker), a dog I very much wanted to breed our Buttercup to (way back when). Dekker was not a dog whose semen could be collected for shipping, and the timing never worked out for a live breeding, so I never got the chance to meet those puppies. Zoe is Buttercup's direct female-line descendent, and is, in many ways, a lot like her great-grandmother. To me, this litter feels like the fruition of that decade-long dream litter.
2) On the other side of his pedigree, Mashi's maternal grandfather was a dog named Sam (Innisfree Samurai II). Sam was also our Buttercup's paternal grandfather (Indiana's father). This makes Zoe and Mashi "first cousins three times removed" (please, noone worry about inbreeding as the COI of this breeding is actually quite low, and humans of this relation could legally marry in all 50 states!).
Buttercup passed just over a year ago, a couple week's shy of her 14th birthday. She was exceptional, certainly one of the finest all-round dogs I have ever met, and is to date, the first and only Shiba in the history of the breed to earn both AKC conformation and performance Championship titles.
