Puppy Pictures: the third week!

September 10 - October 16 (most recent pictures first)

Aren't they sweet? That's Sam on the left and Josh on the right.

The third week of puppyhood is an exciting time! The puppies' eyes, which started to open at the end of the 2nd week, are now fully open. Notice the bluish color - they won't be able to see anything for another week yet. We first suspected that they were beginning to hear on Saturday, and by this morning (Tuesday) they are all moving towards the sound of a human voice. I got my first dintinct tail wag this morning also (I think this is kindof like a baby's first smile) from Sam when I scratched his chin. The puppies are just beginning to truly walk (although they've been able to crawl very efficiently and quickly for several days now). At this age we can just start to get our first inkling of each pups individual personality!

The boys: from left to right, Josh, Charlie, and Sam. I didn't have an assistant to hold these guys for their pictures, so, in true shiba fashion, they made life interesting for me - Charlie didn't want to wake up and Sam would not hold still! Photos taken on Tuesday the 15th. They now weigh 29.0-34.4 ounces, with Josh being the smallest and Charlie the biggest. It's getting much easier to tell these guys apart too... Josh is easy as he has the lightest face and Sam's face is a bit wider than Charlie's.

The girls: on the left, my sister Laura with Donna (left) and CJ (right) and, on the right, a close-up of Ainsley. Photos taken on Monday the 14th. They now weigh 26.9-28.7 ounces, with CJ being the smallest and Ainsley the biggest. The girls are easy to identify as CJ is the darkest and Donna is the lightest.

My sister and brother-in-law posing with the girls, one of whom will be their shiba. In the left photo, the pups from left to right are Ainsley, Donna, and CJ. In the right photo, CJ (front) and Donna (back) are asleep on Dave's lap. Notice how much darker CJ is than her sisters - we still think that the odds are that she'll be red, but we're beginning to wonder if she may turn out to be a red sesame!
